171 precious little lives saved....they all now have a future.
4,296 girls and woman assisted in their time of need or crisis.
Baby abandonment is a tragedy that is happening in the United States - It does not have to happen: A Safe Haven for Newborns began in response to the tragedy of infant abandonment in Florida. We see and read about abandoned babies all too often – it is heart breaking. The Safe haven law is a safety net for both the mother and the newborn infant. Instead of abandoning a newborn to an almost sure death, it allows mothers, fathers or whoever is in possession of an unharmed newborn, approximately seven days old or less, to leave them at a Safe Haven facility: Any Hospital, Staffed 24/7 Fire Rescue Station, or Staffed 24/7 Emergency Medical Service Station, with no questions asked, totally anonymous, free from fear of prosecution...... A compassionate approach which is saving lives.

Nick Silverio does not like ironies, because they almost always come with negatives.
Like a recent Saturday evening when South Florida media were buzzing with the news that 39-year-old Cheryl Arthur of Hollywood had been arrested for the murder of her 3-year-old daughter. Arthur has since been formally charged with the crime, which police say she blamed on stress and depression.

“He, who saves one life, saves the world entire.”
That sentence, paraphrased from the Talmud, beautifully expresses the value of every single human life.Although it was written centuries ago, it is a perfect description of the philosophy that drives Safe Haven, an award-winning, trailblazing non-profit Florida organization that is dedicated to rescuing newborn infants who are tragically abandoned by their mothers. Over the ten years of Safe Haven’s existence, the program has grown substantially, expanding in concept and now offering a range of services and programs to prevent newborn abandonment.
Safe Haven was created in 2001 by Nick Silverio, a man whose deep compassion and love for all children led him to devote his life to saving abandoned infants. He created the organization to honor the life of his beloved wife Gloria, who was killed in a car accident in 1999. Nick and Gloria were married for 32 years, and although they had no children, they were devoted to children and served as godparents to fourteen.
