191 precious little lives saved....they all now have a future.
5,115 girls and woman assisted in their time of need or crisis.
Baby abandonment is a tragedy that is happening in the United States - It does not have to happen: A Safe Haven for Newborns began in response to the tragedy of infant abandonment in Florida. We see and read about abandoned babies all too often – it is heart breaking. The Safe haven law is a safety net for both the mother and the newborn infant. Instead of abandoning a newborn to an almost sure death, it allows mothers, fathers or whoever is in possession of an unharmed newborn, approximately seven days old or less, to leave them at a Safe Haven facility: Any Hospital, Staffed 24/7 Fire Rescue Station, or Staffed 24/7 Emergency Medical Service Station, with no questions asked, totally anonymous, free from fear of prosecution...... A compassionate approach which is saving lives.

NORTH LAUDERDALE | He died alone and unnamed, dumped in a trash bin. But nearly 110 mourners attended his funeral, four priests concelebrated the Mass, and his remains will rest eternally underneath a statue of the Blessed Mother. The contrast between the beginning and end of Baby Gabriel's brief life is a testament to the Catholic Church's belief in the dignity of all human life, a living witness of how the Church — and individual Catholics — do indeed back their pro-life words with deeds, despite the often unrelenting criticism of the secular world.
Baby Gabriel was found in a trash bin Aug. 10 outside a Fort Lauderdale beachside hotel, stuffed into a pillowcase that was wrapped in a towel. Police discovered him after growing suspicious of the story told by a woman, identified as Alexandria Sladon-Marler, who was being treated at Broward Health Medical Center. The 33-year-old had told hospital staff that she had had an abortion. But doctors saw that part of an umbilical cord was still attached, and determined she had given birth.

OVIEDO, Fla. -
Oviedo fire officials said a parent dropped off an infant at the fire station on Tuesday under the Florida safe haven for newborns law.
Fire officials said the parent dropped off the infant at the Oviedo Fire Station 46 on Alexandria Boulevard about 5 p.m. Tuesday as part of the Florida law that allows parents to drop off babies under 7 days old at fire stations with no penalty.
Oviedo Fire Chief Lars White said after speaking with the dispatcher in the front lobby, the parent was asked basic health information, and the child was turned over within an hour. The process was anonymous and that's why officials believe it works.

Young girl's life didn't have to end this way |

Nick Silverio does not like ironies, because they almost always come with negatives.
Like a recent Saturday evening when South Florida media were buzzing with the news that 39-year-old Cheryl Arthur of Hollywood had been arrested for the murder of her 3-year-old daughter. Arthur has since been formally charged with the crime, which police say she blamed on stress and depression.

“He, who saves one life, saves the world entire.”
That sentence, paraphrased from the Talmud, beautifully expresses the value of every single human life.Although it was written centuries ago, it is a perfect description of the philosophy that drives Safe Haven, an award-winning, trailblazing non-profit Florida organization that is dedicated to rescuing newborn infants who are tragically abandoned by their mothers. Over the ten years of Safe Haven’s existence, the program has grown substantially, expanding in concept and now offering a range of services and programs to prevent newborn abandonment.
Safe Haven was created in 2001 by Nick Silverio, a man whose deep compassion and love for all children led him to devote his life to saving abandoned infants. He created the organization to honor the life of his beloved wife Gloria, who was killed in a car accident in 1999. Nick and Gloria were married for 32 years, and although they had no children, they were devoted to children and served as godparents to fourteen.
