I had never heard of this program before the adoption agency we were using in Florida called us about our little boy. My son was found safe last year at this time. Today we are celebrating his first birthday he has had a very rough first year with heart surgery being part of it ,but is now doing very well. We feel so blessed to have him in our lives. Watching him grow and get stronger everyday ,starting to walk with a smile on his beautiful little face. My children are adopted and without couragious woman like their birthmoms we would not know what it is like to watch our children laugh and grown and learn. Our children came to us healthy as well as two with special needs. Their are people that wish to adopt a baby that even has life threatening special needs. How much more wonderfuller could it be IF people would understand that baby abandonment laws should be continuent through until the years when children are old enough to take care of themselves. Then, maybe then, there would be far less deaths of infants and toddlers if parents were allowed to drop them off at safe havens also? especially for those mothers who find themselves on the edge and no longer able to cope; please bring your child to a hospital or safe place instead of doing something one might be sorry for the rest of their lives. I am the proud mommy of two boys (3 yrs and 5 months) and I have never been able to understand why someone would throw their newborn baby away. I have decided that the biggest way I can make a difference in this world is to be a mommy. To love, nuture, and protect. I never knew how much I wanted my babies until they were placed in my arms. Almost immediately, I knew how lucky my family was to have a husband and wife so committed to raising these two amazing kids. And both my husband and I knew...that we WILL adopt someday. Though it breaks my heart everytime I hear of a newborn thrown away, I feel my heart pulling me to the older babies who live long enough to feel unwanted. These are good kids who could thrive if someone only gave them a chance at a safe home, a good school, clothes, transportation, money....there are too many children who fall through the cracks.
